RIP: my work computer

My work computer died today. I didn’t lose any data, but it’s just inconvenient because I’m trying to get this site I’ve been working on finished before I go on holidays next Friday and the deadline is tight as it is.

Anyway, my amusement of today, apart from the thrill of installing my development tools back onto a new PC and making VS.NET work with SP2, came when I discovered that both my laptop and my phone did infrared. I knew that this was possible, but getting laptop and phone both talking bluetooth had been such a hassle that I’d never actually tried it. However, after spending the day downloading and installing things it seemed like a better way to kill time while I waited for VS.NET to restart than another game of freecell.

It’s just so cool! I just turn my phone’s IR on, point it at my computer and then I can send pictures back and forth with no more effort than that! My computer even beeps at me when the angle I was holding the phone at was dodgy. It’s just like a book I’ve I just finished reading called down and out in the magical kingdom where they’d “squirt” data at each other.
