Developers vs programmers

I like this:

“You can’t eliminate problems, but you can make trades to get problems that you prefer over the ones you have now.” :)

It’s from an interesting article about Developers vs programmers which is interesting because it contains a definition of developer I hadn’t considered before. I’d actually say that being a developer rather than a programmer has bad connatations. I go by either depending on the context. I’m not too bothered. I’m secure enough about my skills that the name doesn’t actually change what I can do.

Reading that I’m actually feeling pretty glad that my first boss actually made me learn how to do documentation and specs and customer support. I think these things have actually given me an advantage in the subsequent jobs I’ve gone for. Who’d have thought a job working for the uni web team would end up giving me exactly the skills I needed.
