An easier way to add toolbox components from assemblies

The other really cool thing that I learned this week was an easier way to install components from assemblies into the toolbar.

In the past I always thought you had to do the slow and frustrating right click on the toolbox and then “choose items” to eventually bring up the “choose toolbox items” dialog after you’ve lost interest with waiting and started reading your email. Then you need to scroll through the list and find the controls you want to add amoung the fifty thousand that you have installed on the system.

Instead you can just open up a windows explorer window, navigate to the directory containing the assemblies that you want to add and then drag and drop those assemblies into the toolbar. Any components that can live in the toolbox will automatically be added. This works in both VS2003 and VS2005.
