Date for OpenTech 09 announced

One of my first and favourite UK conferences, OpenTech have just announced the date for 2009 is going to be July 4th. It’s got more of a beardy, open source, linux feel to it than DDD day does but that’s one of the things I like about it. The talks are always really interesting. One year [...]

Spanish Nerd Pride day

A friend of mine told me he went to Spanish Nerd Pride day today. I thought it was a really neat idea! He said a heap of geeks met up in his city dressed up as geek icons (star wars characters, comic book characters.. that kind of thing). I love the idea of publicly embracing [...]

Girly geek dinner at Google!

I went to the UK Google building near Victoria station tonight for a girly geek dinner tonight and got to see how the Google lot live. It was held in their lunch room and I must admit I was quite envious when I saw they got as much free Ben and Jerry’s icecream as they [...]

Giving great tech presentations

Another thing I saw this week that I liked was an article by a guy called Guy Smith-Ferrier who presents a lot in the UK .NET community. He wrote an article about giving great tech presentations with some really good tips about how to get started. I’d really recommend reading it to anyone who’s been [...]

Speaking at DDD4

I did my first ever developer developer developer day talk on the weekend. I went as a delegate to the second one and thought it was a really great day so it was really exciting to go speak there. I did a talk about developing objects in Javascript and talked about the basic things you need [...]

Speaking at DDD4!

Some pretty exciting news is that my session about javascript objects got accepted for DDD4! Anyone who’s interested in .NET and isn’t doing anything on December 4 should really go register (even if you’re not interested in my talk) because it’s a great chance to learn about the latest .NET stuff for free.

HOWTO: keep an audience awake when you're talking

This isn’t really directly tech related, but I thought I’d share this page I found about creating good presentations because presentations are something we all have to do despite that fact many of us (well me) would all prefer to communicate with management/customers/clients/flatmates by email (AKA the way all normal people communicate). The thing I liked [...]

Geeky things coming up in London

Looks like there’s going to be a bit of an interesting geek dinner this Friday night. They’re getting one of the guys who’s talking at open tech to be the guest of honour. The other fun geeky thing that’s been announced in the last few days is another DeveloperDeveloperDeveloper day! I missed the last one so [...]

Girl geek dinner

There’s talk of a geek dinner just for girls who are geeks. If you’re a girl and a geek, you should toddle over to Sarah’s site and tell her that it’s a good idea. I’m personally curious because I haven’t met that many geek girls since I got here. This doesn’t actually bother me because I’m [...]
