Geeks are great but bet on the non-techies

Why I use facebook (which I don't much like) and stopped using ICQ (which I loved).

Microsoft updates English language – only 62MB

We’d just got home from work and were settling in for a nice bit of internet related procrastination when I heard a yelp of displeasure from Joe. He’d loaded up his machine and got a little message from Windows Vista 64 bit saying that some new critical updates were ready to install: Fair enough, so he [...]

The cake is a lie

Joe linked me to a brilliant website to promote Portal, one of the best games of 2007. There’s something kind of fun about an advert that is evil to you. Also pictures of the newest toy at chez Helen and Joe:

Australian google maps

I feel a little homesick searching Australian google maps. Specially when they can find the pie shop that my dad used to take my sister and me for a treat. Impressive technology, but not quite as good as a holiday at home where I can smell the air and feel the sun. When is google going [...]

iPod number 2 dies.. is it time to move on?

My ipod is dead again. I’ve got about two weeks on my warranty so I guess I’ll go down to John Lewis again and get them to take it away and send me back a new one. I can’t say I’ve got much faith in another replacement ipod since my current one only survived about [...]

Such a geek

My boyfriend Joe is being very patient as I prove how geeky I am by blogging from his shiny new white PSP. Now he’s going to experience the marvels of modern technology when he uses my desktop machine on the other side of the room to see what I’ve writen about him.

Russian designers find a way to make keyboards exciting

Just when you think that they’ve done everything that could possibly be done with one of the least glamorous peripherals, someone comes up with something new. In this case it’s a nifty new keyboard called Optimus where each key is a fancy LED screen which can display whatever you want. This is cool for apps where [...]

It's love: Helen joins the people wearing white headphones

My boyfriend, Joe, talked me into buying an ipod on the weekend. Our conversation went something like this: Joe: Well didn’t you want to buy an ipod? Helen: What time is John Lewis open until? I’m smitten! Seriously! It’s just so lovely! Now I’ve had one a week I don’t know how I lived the previous 23 years [...]

Privacy for everyone or for noone?

I just had a really scary thought. I was reading an article about privacy in a software development magazine and they were talking about who deserved privacy. They said that terrorists, criminals, spammers and people abusing their corporations networks didn’t deserve privacy. But when I thought about it, I thought “wait a minute, if they can [...]

WritTorrent

Interesting bit of technlogy, WritTorrent , combines weblogging and BitTorrent streams. Don’t know what it’d be used for, but I’m sure some people smarter than me will think of some good uses for it. :) Alas, I’m inclined to agree with Ben that it’s only a matter of time until BitTorrent is banned.
